The red palette

One of the primary colours and also one of the first colours to be used by humans. Red can mean a wide range of things. From danger to love, red is undeniably captivating.

This collection of photos is here to render tribute to the 625–740 nm range.

Bonfire at the beach

The hospitality, happiness and passion of the Italian people cannot be matched. The red ‘ghosts’ are light trails of a group of friends gathered around the fire.

Taranto, Puglia.

This subterranean palace, located at the heart of Istanbul, used to be a big water reservoir during the Byzantine Empire. However, these days the water is low and you can observe the almost 340 pillars holding the structure together.

Beware of the Medusas’ eyes lurking around! You do not want to turn into stone.

Sunset between the sunflowers

Mid-summer in Bulgaria. The country is a feast to the eye, from golden bricks in Sofia to the fields and fields of blooming sunflowers.

This sunset was yet another delicacy to enjoy.

Paradoxically, I was lucky enough to capture the beauty of this light game at the ‘Blue Mosque’ in Istanbul.

I vividly remember the red hues from the carpet coming together with the more than 200 decorated windows and the grand chandelier to create a divine atmosphere.

Water droplet on pillars

This shot was taken as a fluorescently stained water droplet evaporates from a pillared structure. You can appreciate the interference fringes present in the droplet.

I loved the symmetry and the shape of this photo as it reminds me of parts of some pre-Columbian gold pieces.

The Grand Bazaar

One of the major landmarks of Istanbul, the grand bazaar is full of delicious food, smells and colours. I managed to take this shot as someone was choosing ‘roses’ over ‘love’.
