The yellow palette

The third in the subtractive colour system, Yellow has been with us since the beginning of life. Bathed by the sun, or in our ornaments, yellow is fundamental to us.

This collection of photos is here to render tribute to the 570–590 nm range.

The Gold Museum

Who are we? Who were we? How did we live? What kind of society were we a part of?

Our history is vital to us as a society, as people, as humans. The Gold Museum in Bogotá, Colombia collects all kinds of archaeological objects left to us by our ancestors, like this piece.

When I look at it I am reminded of all we lost, and all we can still fight for. We were there before the newcomers proclaimed to have ‘discovered’ us, and we will be there evermore.

Amsterdam Centraal

Amsterdam Centraal

Christmas spirit at Amsterdam Centraal

Amsterdam’s central station is not only a railway station. It was designed by the same architect as the famous Rijksmuseum, Pierre Cuypers.

I managed to capture this instant on a December evening while I was running a bit too early for my train. It was not the first time I was at this station but it was the first time I stopped to look at its beauty. The decorated ceiling, the Christmas lighting, the golden details.

Next time you are on time, have a walk around the station. You can spot many wonderful details in this place. All you need to do is look up.

Basilica di San Marco

The domes of the Basilica of Saint Mark are simply breathtaking. Inside and outside, this place is full of detail and rich colours.

Tayrona pendant

Tayrona pendant

The Tayrona art

This pendant was made in an alloy of gold and copper. It was likely worn by a shaman near the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta, Colombia.

Shamans were in charge of ensuring the physical and mental well-being of their people. The symbolism around them is often part human and part animal as they transformed—in thought and spirit—into these types of creatures to avoid the limits imposed by our human condition. When the shamans returned to their being, they returned with knowledge and power to lead their communities.
